Fort wrote in New Lands (1923) of lights involved with earthquake action. ‘At Llanthomas and Clifford, cities much less than 20 miles west of Hereford, a fantastic light was witnessed in the sky, an explosion was read, and a quake was felt. 50 percent an hour later on … at Stokesay Vicarage, Shropshire, was found … an illumination so fantastic that for half a minute every thing was just about as seen as by daylight.’

Newport

The South Wales Echo (23/04/1894) reported that a dwelling in Mountjoy Street was stated to be haunted – and that a team of boys who had taken to loitering and maintaining observe for the ghost had broken all the home windows by throwing stones. Charles Edwards was fortunate to get the scenario dismissed from the police court docket with a warning.

Viewing FOR A GHOST. A juvenile delusion at Newport – An effect has received abroad that a home in Mountjoy-steet, Newport, is haunted in consequence, the boys in the neighbourhood obtain spherical in teams at evening time, in the vain hope of catching a glimpse of the spectral visitor. Although ready for the ghost the lads have whiled away the time with throwing stones at the home windows, until eventually all the latter have been broken. Charles Edwards, just one of the lads appeared at the borough police-court to remedy a cost of throwing a stone. – Edwards said that the stone was a marble. – “What,” stated the magistrates’ clerk, “you don’t hope to strike a ghost with a marble?” – Head Constable Sinclair told the court docket that owing to the various grievances produced by house homeowners two policemen in basic outfits had been put on duty. – In the specific case the prosecutor did not want to commence, and the lad was dismissed with a warning.
